Through a series of interviews, the discussion of Florida's growth, economy and fiscal responsibility were at the forefront of the meeting. St. Augustine has made it to 450 years young and according to members of the Florida Cabinet, their success speaks to the success of the state as a whole. As one member of the cabinet pointed out, the tourism aspect of Florida has helped with growth in that so many visitors choose Florida as their home.
Referred to as an international brand, Florida Cabinet members say places like St. Augustine help secure the legacy that is Florida in the minds of adults and children alike. Success is one thing but growth is another and as condo construction, foreclosures and a lack of median income priced homes have made it into the news recently, a legacy built on the beauty of St. Augustine may not be a bad thing.
Members of the Cabinet invited all Florida residents and visitors out to St. Augustine for their special celebration in hopes more people will fall in love with all that is Florida. As the nation's oldest and continuously occupied European settlement, Florida Cabinet members feel St. Augustine is a great example of continuous growth and progress. The celebration, which took several hundred people to plan, hosted over 100,000 people and this may suggest St. Augustine is as popular as it is successful.
